Wow. That’s a bad experience, but luckily you got through it.
I suspect many police become somewhat jaded to hearing about crimes, random assaults and vandalism happening day after day.
It may be hard not to become numb to all but the most devastating crime scene.
Maybe police departments know this, and will add minor changes in a cop’s routine here and there, just to keep the officers from having eyes glazed over for most of the time. I directly know nothing about actually being an officer. I am speculating only, based on human nature.

New York City politicians, NYPD brass, and their cohorts in the propaganda media spread the lie that nobody did anything when Kitty Genovese was attacked - because the NYPD dropped the ball.
At least two people did call the police; Hattie Grund and Samuel Hoffman. The police didn't respond and the attacker came back for her, indoors and out of sight of the earlier witnesses. The call was not logged and the detectives didn't take kindly to his comment to them the next day when he said to them, "Maybe you should have come when I made the phone call."
That “Globalize the Intifada” map makes more sense than anything else I’ve heard tonight. And the guy would not have been able to purchase a gun if he had any serious mental health issues. His plan was obviously premeditated and he carried it out without a flaw.
