Just because a highly contentious vote in 1973 changed the DSM to remove homosexuality as a form of mental illness does not mean the truth was changed.

Even their later wimpy changes don’t reflect the truth.

“sexual orientation disturbance,” which was defined as having a same-sex sexual interest and being distressed by it or wishing to change it.
The subsequent editions of the DSM continued to grapple with how to address distress related to sexual orientation, with diagnoses like “ego-dystonic homosexuality” appearing in the DSM-III (1980) and “sexual disorder not otherwise specified” in the DSM-III-R (1987).
Homosexuality, as a category based on sexual orientation itself, was completely removed from the DSM in 1987 with the publication of the DSM-III-R.
