I agree. I understand that Trump has confidence in his ability as a deal maker, but neither Z nor Putin want to make a deal, so there’s that. Even Trump can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
Russia already controls the vast majority of land in the oblasts Putin is demanding. Reports are Russia is pouring shitloads more troops into these area now. The war can continue until they physically drive the Ukrainians out and hundreds of thousands more die or Zelensky can concede they have lost now and move on. We know how the grifters roll though. The point is Zelensky is making demands he is not in any position to make…. And Putin like it or not is in the drivers seat. Saying Putin is making impossible non-starter demands is pure hypocrisy….

Russia does not yet control the major cities of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, nor are they across the Dnipro River. They have been trying to advance for over two years now with only marginal success and at high cost. It would be a mistake to think that a Russian victory is inevitable.
Additionally, evacuation from the four oblasts is only for a temporary ceasefire. Putin is demanding much more for a peace agreement, demands that would be the end of Ukraine as an independent country. Russia’s extreme demands will mean that Ukraine will continue to fight with or without US support.

Yes, Trump has found out first hand how difficult it is to end a blood feud. This is Hatfields and McCoys stuff. Sometimes you just have to let them duke it out. They literally hate each other.
If it is a feud, it is one sided. Ukraine was not bothering Russia and just wants to be left alone. It is Russia that is insisting on intervening in Ukraine.
