3 times in the last 100 years Europe has invaded Russia. I’m not saying that sometimes the Europeans were provoked but, given the history of invasions Russian needs a very strong military to protect itself. If America had been invaded three times in the past 100 years, I guarantee you that we would have an army three times the size it is now..

Your claim is wrong actually. This is the regular biannual conscription of newly eligible (read as turned 18, finished educational deferment, naturalized between age 18-30, etc.) who have never served their mandatory one year. This is concretely not a mobilization. Men in this status are not eligible for foreign service.
If you want peace, prepare for war.

For literally decades, Russia has done conscription in the Spring each year. The conscripts serve 1 year, all of it training in matters military, and then they are returned to private life, but in the inactive Reserves.
This is all done every year. There is nothing special in this particular announcement. This universal conscription is why their Reserves numbers are in the millions, having accumulated over the decades. They leave the Reserves ranks at . . . I think it was 45 yrs old.
It is when Reserves are mobilized that men come on active duty. That is the significant announcement. Not the annual conscription total which is pretty much always between 100K and 200K.
