I want no tax on tips, no tax on Social Security benefits if we can get it.
GPT is one dimensional and makes those who rely on it poorer thinkers.
Much of this is less about getting re-elected and more about Dems losing income from their hidden slush funds and more corrupted agencies become useless to operate against the presidents will.
Add to that this would give Trump more ammo to shut some down permanently.
Understood.
GPT reads the internet. Simply that. There are Reddit groups devoted to putting erroneous information on websites, in quantity, for the purpose and sole purpose of generating GPT errors.
Useful to keep in mind that Administration is not being paid, either. The senior folks can tap savings and then collect the backpay per the Antideficiency law, but the clerical types . . . they aren’t paid. The military is not paid, nor are these clerk types.
All that really only will matter at the 2 week point, the next paycheck.
The maneuvers will be — 1) Schumer just wants 1 month and a bipartisan CR out to Oct. He won’t get much in that, but it won’t be the pure House CR. 2) Offer to allow a vote on some amendments to the CR and have them voted down — and somehow this will persuade him to have the Dems vote Yes.
I think we on FR underestimate the power of the blue base and how virulent they are. These Dem Senators may want to go home and not deal with the stress, but if they choose that route, they’ll be going home full-time, primaried away.
There are so many details about shutdowns that you do not understand.
It is a very complex area about who must report to work, who can report to work at their option, and who cannot report to work under any circumstances.
Different administrations have handled these situations very differently—often regardless of party.
I will give one specific example where a friend of mine used to work.
They were responsible for reviewing and approving construction advances for projects with federal mortgage insurance.
(Agencies with these kinds of activities include the Department of Agriculture, Small Business Administration, HUD and probably others I don’t know about...)
Note that no federal money was spent during the construction process. The review was for lender money that would be approved for mortgage insurance in the event of future loan default by the borrower.
If the government did not approve the payment the owner of the project would not pay it to the contractor—and then the job would stop.
Some administrations ordered my friend into work during shutdowns claiming his work was essential.
Some administrations gave my friend the option to work during the period.
Some administrations prohibited my friend from doing the work—locking him out of the building and computers so even remote work was not possible.
I have no clue which of the three options this administration would choose.
In all cases my friend was told there was no guarantee they would be paid in any scenario—even though historically federal employees had been paid in all three scenarios.
GPT—meanwhile—does not even know this is an issue.
It is all political theatrics.
There has never been a substantial amount of money saved in any government shutdown. The Federal employees have always been given back payments after the shutdown ends.
Contractors may get shorted, depending on the nature of the contract. The big service and defense contractors usually roll on through without missing any revenue. Smaller contractors may be told to pause services, and they won't get paid for the shutdown period.
The biggest money is in Medicare and Medicaid payments. These won't stop but they will get delayed if claims processing gets paused. Real savings here will not be delivered by any shutdown. It will take industry restructuring caused by enforcement of existing Anti-trust and Consumer Protection laws. No administration has yet dared to try that.
2023 Medicare expenses: approximately 850 billion.
2023 Medicaid expenses: approximately 600 billion.
The entire Healthcare payment system is based on deception and fraud, specifically violations of the previously mentioned Anti-trust and Consumer Protection Laws. Corrections implemented here may cut one trillion dollars per year from Federal expenses. Yes, we could see an 80% reduction in those expenses with rational Healthcare pricing. A similar reduction in all health care costs would be possible for everybody, not just those on Medicare/Medicaid.
But too many corporations, and the people working in those corporations, benefit from the system exactly the way it is now. They do not want change and will fight viciously to protect their incomes. Democrat politicians are quick to exploit this opportunity to rally a motivated base of supporters.
It is all political theatrics. The main event will come in October, if anything is really going to happen.
More like DC is a toilet bowl!
Schumer says resistance means hurting people.
Adam Schiff: “The (Ed) Buck stops here!”
Yep. Additonally, it is well established urban legend that the Schumer shutdown will lead to; grams being shoved off a cliff, neo-natal ventilators being unplugged, Pride month cancelled and we are all going TO DIE!!!
Democrats don’t fear Russell Vought it’s Elon Musk is their greatest fear he filled their pockets with sand not cash and the democrats private bank system is closed.
