Yup! BullDOGE them off the edge.
Time for them to go—what started as a good idea is no longer needed. Let the other Liberal forces pay for them.
Me and Maw love sitting in front of the old Philco with the rabbit-ear antenna, waiting for the thing to warm up so we can listen to public broadcasting.
I worked in public broadcasting and am glad I did then.
The world has changed and it isn’t really needed anymore.
“Weak Republican members of Congress always sweep in at the last second to save public media’s bacon. That is true even for some congressmen who sit in +30 and +40 GOP districts in states as red as Oklahoma and West Virginia, but who nonetheless act as if they’re afraid of their own shadow.”
This because NO ONE in DC wants to be removed from Christmas card lists or disinvited to the nice parties and receptions CPB/NPR holds in DC.
Yeah, “NPR” (public radio) should go bye-bye, but $500 million is a drop in the bucket and PBS TV station programming is generally less offensive/more entertaining (”Doc Martin”, etc.) for that $500 million price (~170 USA PBS TV stations)(1K NPR radio stations).
I don’t watch or listen. I don’t want to pay for it.
PBS and NPR came about in an era sixty years ago when you had three major networks that just parroted the same leftist line. For the past thirty years, we have had cable and now Internet with thousands of choices that neither need nor receive federal subsidies. There is now NO need for taxpayer money and they need to be defunded.
The people who can not define what a woman is are finally leaving our government.
Merrick Garland is gonw.
The Justice Department will no longer target moms at school board meetings and call patriots domestic terrorists.
It’s simple. They have plenty of rich sponsors, and the US is in deep debt.
I occasionally would listen to ‘all liberal things considered’ or ‘wait wait bash Trump again’ or ‘car talk’ but I find the real value is the bringing up of topics as a foil while I drive my children to school.
They will get introduced to nutty ideas without me but here is my chance to have them introduced with me and give me a chance for rebuttal.
There’s still interest in terrestrial radio. The licesnses could be resold, just not to George Soros.
When they come back with the usual “You’re going to kill Big Bird” ask fried, boiled, whole roasted, or spatchcocked? Feed the homeless.
I could tolerate PBS if they stuck to non biased programming. As it is, the news is far left wing presented by the people that failed at CNN and subsidized programming for minorities to whitewash public sentiment. PBS represents biased left wing news and the PBS stands for “poor black stories”...
Hooray.
Get that story repeated everywhere.
Some cities have 2-3 local universities and nearby towns, each with a PBS and NPR studio and announcers. Adds up.
More than 1,000 radio stations for NPR.
350 TV stations.
Idea was supposedly to allow non-commercial outlets for middle of the road news and talk to counter the wealthy sponsor controlled networks which tended to be like the Henry Luce owned Time and Life Magazine conservative and patriotic viewpoints and the Hearst ones.
President Johnson’s wife Lady Bird Johnson owned such stations as ones she changed to KLBJ-AM and KLBJ-FM to make them “LBJ” brands. Bought for $40,000 with an inheritance from her mother and much later it sold for $27.5 million. She used $10,000 of her inheritance to fund her school teacher husband’ Lyndon’s first campaign in Texas.
