I’ve had family friend priests where they thought they’d lose heaven by screwing up in purgatory, but thought muslims could go to heaven because they “loved Mary”.

The priest can't believe anything for the Muslims. The Muslims cannot go along with the priest's beliefs, even if it's 'just Mary' that they want to believe in . She's not the son of God and being mother of Jesua does not make her holy in their eyes.

Even the priest is totally mistaken for believing that the Muslims would think that way. The priest does not speak for them nor think for them. The priest needed to have his head examined.
