You can’t be against unions. It is a first amendment right. Freedom of association and of assembly.
But, the utility of various unions can and should be called into question. IMHO, most unions should be voluntary and ad hoc. If workers have specific issues, they can nominate some representatives to address the issues with management/owners. Negotiate and resolve them. Then disband.
This professional unionism with mandatory dues taken from pay checks should end - but really that is up to the members to resolve. Particularly the public service unions. But it is not up to me. I will just exercise my 1A rights and say they are not good for the cities, states, countries.
Starbucks being unionized seems like a sick joke. Maybe a shakedown. But it says something about people. They seem to think being a barista is the apex of professional life.
Paging Supreme Court to the yellow wall phone. I am no fan of Starbucks and it’s fun to watch liberals eat their own. The SCOTUS judgement should affirm the Administrative law “judge” but also require that same “judge” to pay for any and all costs associated with his order, out of his own pocket including any future indirect costs. This way the administrative “judge” can personally feel all the good that his unconstitutional lawmaking is doing.
Reality:
Don’t like were you work?
Quit and get a job somewhere else.
Don’t like your spouse? Get a divorce
Don’t like where you live? Move.
Don’t like your car? Sell it.
Quit bitching and be proactive.
Life is frequently unfair. Your choice is to accept it or deal with it.
Or perhaps NLRB can buy a two store franchise and run it themselves.
Open it. Then close it for losing money.
10-289. Point 2. Point Two. All industrial, commercial, manufacturing and business establishments of any nature whatsoever shall henceforth remain in operation, and the owners of such establishments shall not quit nor leave nor retire, nor close, sell or transfer their business, under penalty of the nationalization of their establishment and of any and all of their property.
I'd imagine Starbucks will continue to ignore those NLRB orders because they aren't self-enforcing anyway. NLRB has to go to a federal circuit Court of Appeals to get an enforcement order, which apparently hasn't been issued and likely wouldn't be.
And the owners short the stock and write off the business loss.
Sue their commie asses. Ithaca is the city of hate.
If you have a business your CEO is your government. It collects a salary. You cannot fire it. It tells you what to do. If you disobey you will be punished.
Reagan was right, fear the words “I work for the Government and I am here to help you.
Will the NLRB ORDER former employees to return to the Starbucks stores that closed?
This NLRB order is unenforceable.
thats not fascist at all
I don’t understand the comments on this thread. Are FReepers all going to bat now for Starbucks just because a federal agency went after it? Are you kidding me? Starbucks is as “woke” and “dei” as anything can get. They let the homeless trash their bathrooms with used needles and then sit at a table and order NOTHING. I avoid that place like the plague because of who is/are sitting at those tables. And I can do that because I don’t have a caffeine addiction and don’t drink coffee. Let the feds eat their own garbage.
Public serpents.
If unions are so great, why don’t they start companies and set them up with union employee ownership?
“...mandatory dues taken from pay checks should end - but really that is up to the members to resolve. Particularly the public service unions. “
It is already illegal to take fees from public employees paychecks unless they agree to join the union. Requiring public employees to join a union or pay agency fees was declared unconstitutional by scotus. See the “Janus” decision of a few years ago.
Thanks. But let me ask a follow up. As an applicant, will the bosses give you the job if you refuse to join the union?
lol
What a buffoon!
> If unions are so great… <
To be fair, I never said unions were “great”. Instead, it’s a freedom thing. And I’m a believer in checks and balances. A good union can be a check against bad (as in evil) management.
Also, a union is often the only entity that will tell the truth in difficult situations. We see that with the Border Patrol union. All is fine at the border, says Harris. Not really, says the union.
And as a side note, I’m well aware of the corruption and greed in unions. Unions check bad companies. But there are no real checks against bad unions.
