Start a new event in the old style, no professional players, non-profit, keep it simple, family-friendly, no liberals allowed in leadership.

You do know that in 1984, they staggered work shifts, had none essential people stay home and a good number of people left the city entirely for the games on holiday as their jobs gave them the time off. The mayor at the time requested all of this. It was a resounding success. They also didn’t have modern internet and work from VPNs.

These articles are such a dog whistle for people who just want to be unhappy at anything California does regardless of if it has worked in the past.

As for the no cars thing again a gas light to get clicks from small minded easy to manipulate people who never actually bother to read what was said. They are not making the city car free. They intend to not allow cars to be driven and parked at or near the Olympic venues and only allow authorised vehicles to enter the security cordons around them. Paris just did the same thing BTW. People will have to board shuttle busses from venue to venue or pick up point to venues. This is a good thing there is no way the LA roads can handle a million or more additional vehicles all trying to go to the same few venues at the same time it is not physically possible given the road infrastructure.

We now have modern 5G,GPS and real time GIS management systems. Google maps has a transit function that works great in places like Manhattan for example. You turn on your GPS and put in a destination then click the transit button. It then shows you every combination of transit option to you destination and the ETA of each iteration. Be that bus only, bus + subway, subway + bus ect.. It also shows how far you need to walk to each pick up point or station , the transfers between them and when the next asset is due at each pick up point. Once you click on a specific iteration it then shows you the route to your pick up point and where the asset coming to get you is in real time as a moving dot on the map with a count down timer till it gets to your pick up spot. Once in the asset it knows you are moving and then tells you the number of stops and time till you exit that asset and transfer or arrive near your destination. It’s a epic win of a system light years ahead of wall maps and poster mounted schedules. This is the 21st century. L.A. Will just integrate it’s borrowed busses into the existing Google system which already works in L.A.just like Manhattan.

L.A. Plans to borrow 3000 busses at 50 people each once an hour is 150,000 people moved per hour. A bus is 40 feet long and holds 50+ people a articulated bus is 60 feet long and holds 100+ in a single lane. Cars need at least ten feet between them at speed two cars fit in the foot print of a single bus even loaded with 8 people the density increase is self evident. Busses can have dedicated lanes to bypass grid lock and also be coordinated via radio and 5G data to use specific entry and exit lanes, security check points and drop off points. Again this is not the whole city don’t be a simp and fall for click bait headlines it’s for the venues themselves and to shuttle people too and from them. For high density activities there is no better way to move masses of people than busses or trains. Individual vehicles are the worst way possible and the road infrastructure will not handle millions of additional vehicles all trying to goto th e same locations at the same times any freshmen level GIS student can define why.

I like the idea of not building additional parking lots around the sites. That is not “going green”.

You are probably correct.
I’ll bet the money gets “spent” anyway.

It is in LA, so it is already ruined. Besides, France already got started on destroying the homo-games.

Maybe a fake Olympic torch with strands of red and yellow crepe paper blowing out of the top of the torch. Save the planet!

Simple, so simple. This is not 1984, and this is not the same California as in 1984. I would have loved to go there then, but not anymore. I no longer have any interest in the games either. The last ones were turned into a disgrace, and I’m sure most of the athletes would agree.

Large parts of it go mostly unused because Californians have historically been part of a thriving car culture.

The “public transport” system in LA is not only dirty, crime and homeless-ridden (homeless ride it for free all day then off load in Santa Monica at the end of the day) - it is known as the system that goes from “nowhere to nowhere.”

It is inconvenient, I do not know of a single person who rides it to go to work, wherever they work.

Hell, it doesn’t even go to LAX.

I would love nothing more than to see Bass replaced -but the voting population here is so stupid, lefty or “of immigrant background” that she or another of her ilk will be the mayor of LA for the foreseeable future. LA had a chance to replace the last idiot mayor with a law-and-order, fiscal conservative and they passed.

Why I live outside of LA, we have our own school district, own police force and own city utilities (we sell power to LA) - and why run-down, decrepit homes in my neighborhood go for $1.5 million and up - one just sold two doors down from me, completely falling down, horrible - sold in one day, for cash, over the asking price. House across the street from that, 840 sq. ft. just went on the market for $950k. We are within driving distance of Los Angeles but have none of its problems.

At what point do we not say that the people voted for this, so let them have it good and hard....

The chances of LA electing someone with ANY sense is not likely.

Presupposes LA will still be some sort of organized entity in 2028.

Maybe, maybe not.
