If you're referring to the scant published details of the murderer, there has been neither lying nor abnormal witholding of information. The British law on contempt of court and prejudicing a fair trial is very strict. Once an individual has been charged, the media are restricted to reporting the bare facts of name, age and home location of the accused, plus anything which is said in open court. This is the case whatever the crime and whoever the criminal, and remains the case until there's a trial and jury verdict.
This is long-established law and has nothing to do with the government.

OK—so if no information on ethnicity can be released how can anyone claim that somebody else is providing “misinformation” on this topic.
They can’t have it both ways.
In this case the judge at the remand hearing, who has discretion on this issue, authorised the release of further details. He was born in Wales to Rwandan parents. Apparently, like many Rwandans, a Christian (in this case Catholic) family.
