When I worked at Raytheon in Massachusetts, we had a new hire, a middle-aged Jewish man, who had lived and worked on Long Island his entire life, but lost his job and moved to Massachusetts. He acted like a refuge trapped in the Third Reich. About a quarter of the engineers at Raytheon were Jewish at the time. He was amazed that there were Jews, in substantial numbers, outside the New York metropolitan area. And Jews were completely integrated, there weren’t Jewish teams and Irish teams and Italian teams and cliques. Just one big company. His wonder at finding that there were Jews outside of Israel and New York was amusing.
