Poorer countries are bribed by the IMF/World Bank with loans but only if they impose western-style budgets at high (exorbitant?) interest rates that make them poorer. This guy imposed the taxes on the po (who are the only ones left to tax) and riots ensued.

Yes! They share the same island with the DR, which is stable, and prosperous. And also happens to be Christian IIRC. Whereas Haiti is a hellhole due to their adherence to voodoo and other such “religions”.

Also because France demanded repayment for their slave uprising, and never relented until all the forests were cut down for lumber. Also because they have a f@#$ed up habit of bearing grudges based on race. Aristide was for the dark blacks. Duvalier was for the mulattos. Lots of pathologies and baggage for such a tiny sh!t hole of a patch of dirt. It’s amazing there’s room left for the people.
