All you idiots act like we tried to bring Russia into the fold, that’s BS. We blamed, and still do, Russia for every evil in the world. From elections to wars, it’s always the Russians fault. When we over-through governments at their doorstep and add them to an anti-Russian war machine, it’s the Russians fault. When we dare them to defend fellow Russians, we then whine that actually do it. Hell, we’ve gone so far as to arm actual nazis to kill Russians. Ya, we’re just being good neighbors.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I hardly mind your use of personal invective, which only shows the weakness of your arguments.

Russia is a backward and feeble nation, a gas station with nuclear weapons. Sorry, truth hurts.

Sad. You had such potential. It is not the fault of individual Russians, but circumstances and history that conspired against Russia. Dropping your reflexive defensiveness and abandoning your paranoia and habit of blaming outsiders for your problems would be a good start.

As long as Russia blames the west for its problems, it will never recover.

I grew up in the 1950s in California and as a kid was subjected to many hours and years on how bad and evil Russia was. It was depicted as a hellish land where it always snowed and children were taken from their parents and raised by the state to hate the west and wished only to kill all Americans. I was 16 before I realized that they had summer and spring in Russia and it didn’t always snow and the people were always drunk and starving. They were depicted as a stupid, enslaved people until sputnik and Latka the dog. Then it was attributed to captured Nazi scientists—not Russians. I overcame the endless propaganda but, as I see on FR—many are still stuck in the 1950s mode.

“PROVE me wrong.”

I can’t prove you wrong but I can display you are looking at it from the wrong angle. We don’t hate russian values because we practice them better than they do. And there have been many examples of it.

Russians highly value stability and security. As Geert Hofstede has said, “[they] feel very much threatened by ambiguous situations”, an attitude reaffirmed by their recent history. People are more comfortable with assured stability and tend to approach situations with scepticism and caution rather than taking risks.

Has not our government made an extensive effort to make the voters feel like they are stable and secure by using it to attack the other parties? And look at the worship of leftists with their own party even though it is failing them miserably at the moment with lack of protection, lack of financial security, and allowing them to be subjected to criminal illegals crossing our borders even to the point of creating “santuary cities.” And they will blindly vote for them again and consider themselves lucky if they are elected even though luck had nothing to do with it. That used to be called a parent asking you to go out after a stick to beat you with. And they do it. Is our government good or are the people stupid. A little of both, I think. But that risk the Russians don’t like to take is common in the US and it is all perpetrated by our government. The Russian people do it with concern and the US people do it with no apparent concern to their loss...daily.

So why hate the Russians if the only reason we are supposed to is because their crooked overnment and ours are superior over us and not each other by making us think that way? Because they stay in power that way. And we don’t.

After the Soviet Union fell there were daily murders, daylight robberies and kidnappings in the streets.

Gosh mister, that sounds a lot like here and now...

This herculean jack-of-all-trades can handle any calamity, excepting crapping in his pants.

Eh? He has no difficulties doing that!

Arrogant liberals acted as though Russia didn’t have any options to play the tit-for-tat game. They never consider potential consequences of anything they do because they believe themselves to be intellectually and morally superior to every one else. And thus they have hugely dangerous blind spots.

These are the same people who swore to us that sanctions would bring Russia to its knees. Instead, all its done is encourage other countries to band together to challenge the use of economic weapons and circumvent the dollar.

We need to put adults back in charge before its too late.

It sounds like it, but the Mafia is organized crime. What we have here is disorganized, non-centralized crime. (If you don’t count government, of course.)

No, Russia is a mess. Putin is in charge. After seventy years of strict neutrality he managed to stampede Finland and Sweden into NATO.

Putin charged into Ukraine thinking Russia would roll over the Ukrainian army in a week. The Ukrainians had other ideas.

You do not recover from seventy years of Bolshevism overnight.

Stalin and Lenin were vicious tyrants and did irreparable damage to the Russian soul. That is where are. Fear of the Soviets was not paranoia, it was well founded. The Soviets oppressed Eastern Europe for forty years. They murdered hundreds of thousands Estonians and Poles, selecting the leaders to kill, the priests, teachers, writers, and journalists.

Russians have never fully acknowledged the horror they inflicted on the world, starting with Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact that lead immediately to the Second World War, in which Russia suffered the enormously.

I agree. I believe the Muslim we elected had a lot to do with the current Russia relationship. Christians fighting Christians is a beautiful day for those who despise the infidels.

“...to cultivate cooperative relationships with Russia, a fellow Christian nation.” Its Eastern Orthodoxy has for centuries put in direct opposition to Western (European) Civilization. Putin is the usual and common oriental despot. As I believe it was Pushkin who said, the only thing a Russian respects is the knout.

Hey Russia, here’s a thought. How about dropping one on the pride march in Kiev? The, we get to see the LuggButt community ask Hamas to attack Russian assets — like an embassy.
Gimme the popcorn, I’d watch that.

“He could deploy conventional missiles within striking distance of the United States and its European allies...”

I’m sure that Russia has had conventional missiles within ‘striking distance’ of the U.S. and Western Europe for decades.

Yeah, it's almost funny. Four plus years of "Russia-Trump" propaganda, followed almost seamlessly by the "PUTIN IS HITLER, AND HE'S GONNA TAKE PARIS AND LONDON!!" narrative - but people believed it. And "Putin's crazy/sick/desperate/dying!", but "We know exactly what he's gonna do, so let's keep escalating!" - and people swallowed that. The frosting on the cake is Biden: he hasn't been right on foreign policy in decades (with even Obama admitting Joe will eff-up anything he's associated with), plus Biden's family has been making millions from their (guess what?) Ukraine connections, but folks are willing to go 'all in' on war with Russia to save Ukraine, with Commander-in-Chief Joe in charge. If it was a movie script, it would be a comedy.

No, the actual requirements are obedience to Brussels, willingness to become an administrative district of Brussels/Germany, and accept our fiat money and get loaded up with crushing debt from our central bankers.

“It stands no chance against the combined armed forces of the West”

************

No chance? Some of the West’s best weapons have shown their vulnerabilities in Ukraine. There’s no disputing that. And then what if something occurs that triggers use of nukes? All bets off at that point.

Also its worth noting that our far flung and endless military adventures have taken a toll on our readiness. (Don’t forget the growing China threat.) You can’t operate at a high tempo indefinitely, and we are coming close to that with our extended commitments around the globe. Platforms, weapons, munitions and personnel are under constant strain. Maintenance, training, replenishment and refurbishment get delayed. So less than optimal readiness when you really need it.

I thought it a little odd that when Brandon was “looking for a chair” the other day, _no one_ stepped over to investigate his condition. The Secret Service nor honor guards stepped over to make sure that “looking for a chair” was the only thing going on with him. (Imagine if any other president had stooped to put his hands on his knees like that during a ceremony.) It made me wonder if that sort of thing happens so often that his detail doesn’t even bother to investigate even when he does it during public appearances.
