Both sides did that cold calculus. Up until recent times, we could have crushed the old Soviet Union and successor state Russia, and they knew it. That’s why Stalin and his heirs never tried it. On the other side, your point about this current bunch is true, our statesmen in those days were wiser and knew the results wouldn’t be worth the cost.

Russia has an economy the size of Canada’s or Italy’s. They cannot sustain this for as long as they want. While Ukraine gets direct aid from the West, Russia has to pay for what it gets from Iran, China and North Korea.

The last that I hear was that stopping nukes was “Star Wars”, remember that, you guys came up with the term, after all. You guys claimed it was IMPOSSIBLE. But it’s ok if you guys claim that was from a different set of drugs and no longer applies.
Even so, what’s changed - do we now have “Star Wars”, where we can knock out a Russian First Strike, and if so, why don’t we know about it?

I think you are replying to the wrong person as I never said anything like that.
If it is NATO (or part of NATO) and the USA vs, Russia—we win, but it will not be easy. If it is NATO and USA and Canada vs. Russia, Iran, North Korea and China we lose. If BRICKs joins in—we can lose big. America, post war, will be only 48 states as Russia gets Alaska and China gets Guam and Hawaii. Is it worth it? Millions will die to try to beat back Russia.
