In Virginia, you can clerk in a law firm for three years and take the Multi-state Bar Exam. Don’t even know if you have to graduate high school. Plenty of prestigious firms in Richmond. In New York, one year of law school and a BA plus four years of clerking.

They get juris doctorates, pass the bar exam and the appellate division’s character board, and then they’re lawyers. If you have ever known lawyers beyond “hello” and “pleased t’meetcha,” you would know how utterly in character this mishigas is.
