I have the same problem in my family/friends.The Army drilled that into me. I was an ADA Officer, I had 3 platoons in my first 18 months. If you missed your mission time by a minute, that was enough to fail.
I was acting XO on my final eval with my battery. On the morning of the second day, a platoon missed its mission time by 30 minutes. That LT was clueless, and just couldn't understand why I was being so mean to him. What really irked me was the CO didn't say a damn thing to him.
Not being on time has been a big bugaboo with me for nearly 50 years.
