I respectfully disagree. If Trump is going to argue that the president is “absolutely immune” from prosecution for his “official acts,” which is exactly what he is claiming, then just how far that goes is a legitimate line of questioning.
If the president does have that immunity, then assassinating a political opponent who poses a “clear and present danger to the republic” is arguably within a president’s official responsibilities to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. If the Supreme Court agrees, then given the election interference the Biden administration is already engaging in, Biden is likely to decide that Trump could be killed and Biden could walk away with impunity.
Never give to your political friends power that could be used against you when you are out of power.

This whole issue is a monstrous double-edged sword. If they rule against Trump, then all living former presidents should sweat. Think President Kamala Harris dragging say Bill Clinton (who didn’t send a check that year) into court for his involvement in Yugoslavia. Think it can’t happen?

What if a sitting President is part of a conspiracy to commit election fraud or interferes with the election by using lawfare to bring unsupported charges?
This ridiculous strategy was laid out in January by Biden Judge Florence Pan of the DC Court of Appeals, who asked Trump’s lawyer “Could a president who ordered S.E.A.L. Team 6 to assassinate a political rival, not impeached, would he be subject to criminal prosecution?”
Trump’s lawyer answered “If he were impeached and convicted first, my answer is a qualified yes, there is a political process that would have to occur first.”
Here’s a thought: whatever you do to Trump, we will do to you.
