If demonstrators or rioters (by definition) break the law their sentences should be cumulative. 90 days in jail for blocking a road, then 1 year, then prison. This would transfer from state to state block a bridge in Cal, A road in DC the airport in Seattle three strikes. Call it the BLM, Antifa, Hamas Act.
Agree. As they say in New York the perps are out before the cops have had time to complete the online reports of the arrest details. Smiling as they go.
So they want to disrupt the America they hate. They do so with blocking something (ship a few weeks ago, bridges, access to airports). Then they sometimes, possibly, get arrested. But then are back out. Not facing a terrible jail term or fine I presume. Possibly no punishment but a warning?
So what is the reason for these laws? Do they deter behavior?
Various jurisdictions differ on the laws against behavior of “those who block, obstruct, impede, or otherwise interfere with the normal flow of vehicular or pedestrian traffic upon a public street or highway.” Most I scanned seem to be light punishment offenses.
Protesters wearing signs reading “Free Palestine” and “Stop Genocide” also blocked all lanes of traffic headed to the O’Hare terminals. Is this not an insurrection? Where are the grubby 4’ x 8’ concrete cells to stash these insurrectionists like dogs without a hearing for three years? Next they will be throwing Molotov cocktails to kill the motorists stopped on the the roadways.
Whoever funded them should be sent a bill from local authorities for reimbursement of the cost to clear the streets and incarcerate the criminals.
Perhaps you should be wearing Depends.

Wow
RICO THEM!!!! This is ALL ORGANIZED CRIME!!
On the other hand, the feds should take all of these people on a plane trip to Gitmo. Plenty of open accommodations and fresh air.
If a few of these jerks get run over. That will
Put an end to this disruptive and selfish nonsense.
When Lenin called them Useful Idiots he Wasn’t just kidding
Since they have been arrested, their identities are known for civil suits. I am positively sure some people that were delayed incurred monetary damages like cancelled non-refundable tickets, cruise ship departures, mental anguish, etc.
They don’t need to be sued in Seattle. Midland Texas should be fine.
EC
Blocking traffic is a crime. Doing so detains people against their will. That is the crime of abduction, a class 2 felony in Virginia. Here is the statute:
§ 18.2-47. Abduction and kidnapping defined; punishment.
A. Any person who, by force, intimidation or deception, and without legal justification or excuse, seizes, takes, transports, detains or secretes another person with the intent to deprive such other person of his personal liberty or to withhold or conceal him from any person, authority or institution lawfully entitled to his charge, shall be deemed guilty of “abduction.”
These people should be charged with felony abduction and held without bail.
Deputize a bunch of able-bodied folks from the cars in the blocked traffic ...
Too bad the protesters weren’t beaten by irate travelers.
