He's demoralizing millions of pro-life Americans by refusing to take a stand. He refused to say what limits he supports, which means he would be fine with none if that's what the voters chose.
The alternative is NARAL Joe Biden of course which is unacceptable.
It’s a state issue. As much as I abhor abortion, it is not a federal issue but instead is something that should be dealt by the states. SCOTUS ruled correctly when they made that ruling.
nevertrumpers would push Trump to have a federal ban on abortions...
because they know it would definiately cause him to lose the re-election.
IMHO, if you want to get people's attention, have hundreds and hundreds of truckloads of artificial (rubber) baby parts dumped in front lawmakers’ Capitol buildings all on the same day. Make ProChoice people cleanup the fake baby parts up to force them to understand their acts of “fetus termination”.
States’ rights IS the Constitutional position, and therefore IS the Conservative position.
I’m not upset at all. He’s following the Constitution and Federalism. It’s up to the states.
He gave it to the States, as it should be. By doing it this way he took a tooth out of the Democrat’s mouth. If they bring it up during the campaign, they will look like a bunch of killers. And that will be recognized.
republicans love to lose, he got R vs W overturned...... not good enough?
deviant liberals should be encouraged to abort their young anyway
The entire point of USSC decision was to return the issue to the states. As much as I hate abortion- still it would be pretty disingenuous to then return it back to the federal government. That would make Trump look very bad IMO. Not something to do before the election anyways.
What a crock.
Pro-life conservatives hate abortion, but they also know they are in the minority and that banning abortion is a sure political loser.
They know if President Trump talks about banning abortion, he will lose, and the abortion-loving Democrats will win, and that as a result far more unborn babies will die.
So since we want less abortions, we know we need to STFU about abortion bans and we need to stop badgering our pro-life candidates into taking a hard line on abortions.
Pro-life conservatives are smart enough to understand this dynamic, and they are glad President Trump understands it.
This is yet another example of the Left underestimating Trump supporters…
Trump is for a ban, but he has to get elected to make this stuff happen. He can’t get elected without some support from women. Stop the pearl clutching.
Trump missed a bit of opportunity here:
Trump could have said the Supreme resolved this as a federal by reversing Roe v. Wade.
Done. Trump could have said this is now a state-level issue.
Done. Trump could have said he personally objects to abortion except in the case of...
Not Done. Trump could have recognized that the federal government has a continuing role, which he could then lay out: no federal money for abortions, no abortions at federal facilities, and no federal advocation for abortion.
Not Done. Does the federal government, does an administration of a role, have a position on what states should set at limits--even if not at/after birth.
The whole matter is going to be one of threading the needle. If Trump objects to abortion, he should say so, even if allowing some or all of the above.
And lastly, what of this is or should be under the label of conservative, moderate, liberal, etc.
When does life begin, when do we say wrong to take it.
many people need to get over themselves, especially ones that claim to be Christian (ie: supposedly gave their life to Christ) many of them tend to be conservative in ways so I am coming from that view about this article/title.
If America’s Founding Fathers were God inspired in forming the current Constitution as so many of their writings suggest, to have states have the most say in people’s daily rights/choices, then why on earth do so many conservatives want the federal govt or president to try to push for a national solution to abortion and women who get pregnant and don’t want the child?
Follow God. Following your own wants on a matter like this, which are not in line with what He started in the USA, is to be outside of His plans and purposes.
the ALTERNATIVE is to educate men and women to got get themselves in situations where they even have to consider an abortion.
Like it or not, the Dobbs decision made clear the federal government has no role in this matter. The Constitution leaves the matter entirely to the states. Anyone campaigning on the promise of supporting federal laws on abortion, for or against, is dishonestly posturing for votes. If any such law passed, it would be struck down by the same court. Trump is just being honest with us. Anyone who advertises otherwise isn’t.
Leaving abortion to the states is exactly the argument pro life advocates have maintained since 1973.
SCOTUS exceeded its authority in the Roe v Wade decision, and that’s the point that needs to be made to the US public as loudly as possible so that it doesn’t come back the same, illegal way.
I would personally welcome a national ban on all abortions, but 50 years of propaganda and brainwashing has had the effect desired by the extreme left.
Leaving the issue to the states is the only politically viable solution.
Trump has made the only decision possible in today’s America.
Trump Privately Expresses Support for a 16-Week Abortion Ban
Former President Donald J. Trump has told advisers and allies that he likes the idea of a 16-week national abortion ban with three exceptions, in cases of rape or incest, or to save the life of the mother, according to two people with direct knowledge of Mr. Trump’s deliberations.
Mr. Trump has studiously avoided taking a clear position on restrictions to abortion since Roe v. Wade was overturned in the middle of 2022, galvanizing Democrats ahead of the midterm elections that year. He has said in private that he wants to wait until the Republican presidential primary contest is over to publicly discuss his views, because he doesn’t want to risk alienating social conservatives before he has secured the nomination, the two people said.
The federalizing of abortion was one of the left’s greatest strategic victories. How many radical leftists Reps. and Senators defeated conservatives on this issue alone, over the years? Trump is right to leave it to the states, now that his SC has returned the issue to them.
Trump did what needed to be done. He took the handcuffs off of pro-lifers. Now it’s up to them to continue the fight at the state level, not take a step backwards. Re-federalizing abortion will backfire on the pro-life movement if it takes place. It would ultimately hurt the country and hurt their cause.
If pro-life activists want to introduce federal abortion legislation, they’d be better off focusing on late-late-term abortions and after-term “abortions”.
Doesn’t Trumps position that abortion is not a federal issue and should be left for he states to decide, concur with that of SCOTUS?
I am pro-life. However I think this is the correct position.
First of all conservatives have said for decades that the abortion issue was intended to be decided at the state level. Roe-Wade largely blocked that except for late term abortions. I don’t see how we spent all this time complaining about Roe-Wade usurping the ability of states to decide their own abortion laws and then try to override the states.
Second, any bill at the federal level could not possibly pass, because it would be filibustered in the Senate. So what’s the point? Just to say “hooray for us” or something?
Finally, Trump backing a federal abortion law could throw the election to Biden.
He was left before. Now he is pro abort, big pharma jab, anti 2A bumpstock banner, global lockdowner WHO clown.
No pro lifer is voting for him that truly believes in this.
Some states are aborting after birth thanks to the overturning of roe.
That’s like saying all murder should be returned to the states.
Men who support abortion: these people will euthanize you in less than a heartbeat…. They are doing it in many countries.
Life either matters or it does not.
