I’m certain that somehow, DEI played a role in this disaster...
Have crossed that bridge dozens of times in the 70s and 80s to avoid tunnel traffic, while driving to New England...
Reminds ME of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge (St. Petersburg, FL) getting hit by a ship. It was a very stormy morning in May. 1980.
Gotta say I’d have more confidence in how the state will respond to this disaster if William Donald Schaefer were still in charge. But Brandon Scott and Wes Moore do not inspire my confidence.
Port of Baltimore is one the busiest on the east coast. Another stunning success story for the pos Xiden and his incompetent transportation secretary.
just another example of an easy way for terrorists to kill lots of people, they don’t need planes they can simply run a boat into bridges during rush hour.
Thank God this happened late at night
There’s a video floating around on X that shows the entire incident:
It’s clear that the ship lost power at least twice. I don’t think impairment on the bridge is the issue - these large ships don’t turn or stop on a dime and it drifted in. Based on the pictures it doesn’t seem like there were substantial dolphins or starlings around the bridge supports to reduce the force of impact to the bridge support. I can’t speak from personal experience since I generally don’t use this bridge (I usually take I-895 and the tunnel).
If the initial reports are true, this is a tragic accident caused by power loss and mediocre reinforcement around the bridge supports.

“Mr. President, a container ship has just crashed into and collapsed a bridge in Baltimore. We’re calling an emergency staff meeting to determine how we can blame it on Trump.”
Where was the video taken from?
Was it a fixed Webcam location?
Maybe I missed it, but I can’t find much info on it.
It’s just a personal curiosity
The piers protecting the bridge were probably designed for much small cargo ships.
These two factors plus heavy traffic meant that the chance of a collapse would approach 100% over time.
The bridge was probably managed by MD DOT, the waterway by a port authority & coast guard. The two probably had little communication about ship size changes, operations, etc.
US infrastructure is falling apart and gets inadequate maintenance, inspection, and safety evaluations because US politicians prefer to buy votes with welfare and subsidies to politically connected businesses rather than address real needs.
Tragedy. Was it intentional despite saying it was propulsion failure?
On the bright side, they can rebuild it and give and name it after some black person and not some obscure racist white person. /S
Biden will ask for more money to help repair/replace the bridge. He should not get it. Any federal aid for the issue should come out of Biden’s existing and already bdgeted “infrastructure” bill.
Did you see the mayor of Baltimore? Looked like a high school kid in a Letterman’s jacket.
