The judge would have responded: "How does the First Amendment apply here? You put the damned bumper sticker(s) on your car for the whole world to see." I would then respond, "Did the defendant see the sticker? Did the other jurors see the sticker? You have no right to ask me my religion and if you ask me about the John 3:16 bumper sticker on my car, then you'll find out about Austin 3:16 and some other judge will be hearing this case."

That’s not how it works.
Both prosecuting and defense attorneys have a certain number of VETOs for a juror for any reason.
Yes, of course they want to stack the deck, and Trump is never going to get an impartial jury in a deep blue district.
