Yep. Back then, every national leader was full of pride and confidence. Plus there were folks who were okay with a war. Industrialists will make money. Generals will get promotions. And the national leaders will get to show how tough they are.

Imagine that UK supplied missiles were fired at Russian targets and now suprise of all surprises it turns out the British were behind it? Who would ever have guessed?
There was one positive in keeping NATO after its purpose (the Warsaw Pact) disappeared. It placed Germany as minor player in our stable of European client states, they were never able to go nuclear. All of Europe is much safer today due to that fact.
I dunno Germany is starting to hurt and Sweden and Denmark just finished their investigations and say they won’t disclose who did it.
Maybe they shouldn't be there.

It depends how one defines ‘troops’. One can easily make the case that troops ‘discharged’ from the military to become ‘mercenaries’ and then ‘re-enlisted’ after their mercenary gig are ‘troops’. And we agree that there’s no shortage of them, and certainly no way that the US will allow Ukrainians operate their expensive, and tiny supply, of Patriots.

Wow! I didn’t realize that it was Ukraine who invaded Russia. I was under the impression that Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
