This has been the year of dry cold fronts. Just not a lot of moisture coming up from the Gulf. All the rain we have had has been in something less than a tenth at a time and the little bit of snow we had.

The one coming through right now is unusually blustery. We only had a little spit of moisture this afternoon.

Texas wildfires outside Amarillo force Pantex nuclear weapons facility to pause operations.

“The fire near Pantex is not contained.”

Just looking at the fire map and the area up around Borger and Pampa. People back in the day used to get all hot and bothered about drilling locations. There does not seem to be any such resistance to windmill locations. They are everywhere out there!

The link to this article goes to a regularly updated article. This latest update:

“The Smokehouse Creek Fire has burned 500,000 acres since igniting Monday afternoon, making it the second-largest wildfire on record in Texas, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

It remains completely uncontained and is likely to grow further.

The largest wildfire was the East Amarillo Complex fire in 2006, which consumed more than 900,000 acres, according to Texas A&M.”

From the source link:

far down list of articles

This is the future for US wildfires

From CNN's Rachel Ramirez

(whole article on CNN with Nut Case idiot blaming fires on “Climate Change”, as if they can predict it.)

“Human-caused climate change has exacerbated the hot and dry conditions that have allowed wildfires to ignite, grow and increase in severity in recent years.”

“Researchers say that as the planet warms, the United States could see an overall increase in the conditions that make wildfire possible, and could also experience a prolonged wildfire season — even during the winter months.”

Have you ever been to the outdoor musical “Texas” in Palo Duro Canyon. It had a skit in it dealing with a prairie fire. I’m sure the The Comanche’s knew about that danger.

When my ancestors moved from Coryell County to the Rolling Plains, there were hardly any tree’s except within the river beds. Why was that? Because of Prairie Fires and Prairie Dogs. The fires kill any trees in the path, the prairie dogs would eat the new roots of trees off under ground before they could mature.

My ancestor moved here in 1889. The land had never been tilled before, yet when they plowed the new fields they plowed up roots of trees that had once been there, they were burned off below the ground.

Firewood was very hard to find. At the time there were lots of Buffalo’s and “buffalo chips”, they were used heat and cook with.

My dad’s grandfather’s first home was a 1/2 dugout with sod roof. He did not live there long. The family who allowed him to use his dugout still have a few descendants here and my family are still close friends with them. Most of those that remain still farm. There has never been a marriage between member of those 2 lines.

Time warp? May be.

But it is where I am, and I will be buried here. (I was gone for 25 years, moved back in 1995)
