Rituals miss the point. They make everything superficial.
The prevention for this kind of thing is different human behavior. Look more carefully in the future at the people using the cathedral, for instance. You can’t cure it with yet another ritual, even if this time it’s a good one.
My daughter was baptized there, so it isn’t that I don’t care.
I am pretty sure that, that is exactly what they are going to do.
