“Winter Storm Warning”: “Winter weather alert” with a press agent ... like so very many other weather terms invented to create fear and panic (e.g., “bomb cyclone”; “atmospheric river”; “polar vortex”, etc., etc.)

While normally one to join in on bashing the apocalyptic weather guessers,
I’m currently nursing an injured leg and am not looking forward *at all* to the 9” we’re supposed to be getting in northcentral PA overnight/tomorrow.

< 150’ driveway, 25° slope .. big sigh >

...very wet air up out of the Gulf...

Here in South Alabama, I've gotten 7.45 inches of rain since Friday night. Lucky I live on a hill. My lower garden is a pond.

I was in the grocery store this morning—northern CT.

Everybody looked bored.

They have no clue how to panic—lol.

Well, isn’t this the first snow storm of the winter?

My friend in RI is already complaining about having to deliver the mail tomorrow.

I always reply back to her:

“Neither rain nor snow nor sleet nor dark of night shall keep us from our appointed rounds.”

It always pisses her off. What are friends for?

FYI, she typically puts in 20K steps/day.

We have had a couple of plowable events so far this winter—it is just not a big deal.

My driveway is similar to yours in length and slope.
It was excavated into the hill in 1972 when the house was built. Today the maximum grade of a legal driveway is 8 degrees.

So, after living there for almost ten years and going through four plow guys I bought a Massey Ferguson 4WD Cab tractor.

I used to have a customer in East Haven. I recall about eight to ten years ago they got more snow than us that year.
All the big storms stayed south.

Have they named this storm yet?

They couldn't resist.

Winter Storm Lorraine

They moved the dance to February, looks like.

This place was built in '50, and I'm sure it looked real sweet to 'em in their 30s .. ha!

Your setup sounds nice, esp. the cab part when the wind's 300 mph  :-)
I have an old Deere 318 with a blade and chains so am able to pretty much manage (so far).

Later this year I'll be beating the bushes to find some guy/kids to do it for me while this aging fella watches from the window !

This MF 1735 cab tractor cost more than my Toyota pick up truck.

A buddy of mine talked me into buying the cab version. Plus it adds another 500+ pounds. Which helps when you are pushing snow. Especially since I do it with the 6’ bucket.

I have been thinking about buying chains. Especially, when I am sliding backwards down my driveway in a 4000# tractor.

Chains are a pita to get on, but they sure do help .. prolly couldn’t do this hill without ‘em.

Y’all check your forecasts.

Ours (9”) has been downgraded to 2-3” just in the last hour.

There was definitely panic buying at the Big Y in Enfield. At 2:30 this afternoon there was only one two pack of prune paczkis left in the entire store. I was pissed!

Update—here in northern CT we were supposed to have 8 to 12 (heavy wet hard to shovel) inches of snow.

The storm is over.

We have two inches of fluffy light snow.

Now back to our regularly scheduled “climate change” hysteria.

Lol.
