The article paints an interesting set of tensions between those beholden only to the people of Israel directly and in isolation versus those responsible for Israel's existence in an international context. At this time, while they could physically erase Gaza, it wouldn't do them any good. Egypt, Jordan, and others whence so many Palestinians came won't take them back.

Expecting Netanyahu to solve an insoluble problem isn't going to work. It was set up that way from the moment Hagar called the angel G_d and he promised her a very similar set of blessings G_d gave to Abraham. I suspect we all know what angel would do that. He IS a wild ass of a man. His hand (or a nether part of his anatomy) IS raised against every man. His features are in faces from South America, to Morocco to Indonesia, now infesting North America. They opened the Israeli crossing for humanitarian and PR and diplomatic purposes. It doesn’t have to stop the war against Hamas. It’s better if Israel controls the inspection and flow of aid. Besides, Israel may have to close (with force) the Sinai crossing. Too many tunnels. Aid has to flow from somewhere.

This guy is protesting for the same reasons - he gives Netanyahu a talking point about his government’s stability when he speaks to foreign diplomats. The last thing the US or EU wants is another snap election in Israel. Netanyahu is the devil they know.
