An old savvy intel analyst told me that the CCCP was a 3rd world country with a first class military, that was in the 80’s before asymmetrical warfare tactics were fully developed. The book “Hope Is Not A Method” detailed technological advances between Gulf War I and Gulf War III, Russian Warfare experts probably read it too, and kept pace to a degree. There’s a deadly game of chess being played over there, I’m sincerely concerned that it remains in its current state of containment. If it goes sideways it will not be a joking matter.

As an even older military analyst, I can say they never had a first class militarily, what they had was quantity.

Quantity was their strategic plan, low tech quantity which could be mass produced literally anywhere, easily, by anyone of various technical abilities. That’s what they did in World War II and it continued on but it was a strategy and the CCCP considered it viable. That makes it no less of a threat.
Russian missiles probably wouldn’t make it further than Sweden anyway.
