Property taxes were just carried over from the kings in England to the corrupt ruling class here in the U.S. By nature people are greedy, so are governments run by corrupt individuals, but they’re much worse.

They have no desire to make government smaller, more streamlined and less punitive. The bigger government, and more fear they project, the more powerful, the more insulated they are, of course more hired guns and muscle surrounding them. Government loves taxes and fees, it makes for very nice pensions and benefits, and keeps them very insulated as well by keeping all the kings men happy! With endless resources, layers of political spike strips and legal barricades surrounding them, they’ve become emboldened, which todays events clearly depict.

What’s ironic is one of the biggest duties of the fed gov is to secure our borders and keep the country safe. And look at the country killing disaster they’ve produced, going back decades in the making. Fed gov only had ONE real job, and the completely subverted it, total fail. To the point where they offer the criminals tax paid prizes, gifts, housing, medical care, food, money et al..

The only conclusion seen is it appears this was their goal all the time. They never had any intention of securing our borders, even though they’ve seized tens of hundreds of billions of our tax dollars to a job they never intended to do, which is secure the border.

I have 5+++ acres in rural N Nevada-—near Tesla plant.

MY current taxes are under $1000.

House/garage/well/septic/power/fencing with 2 sets of gates.

On paved road.

As a woman who rented for several years after college, I’ll never forget the sense of safety I felt the first time I locked up my just purchased house and took a shower in my own bathroom.

Because I’ll also never forget the day my former landlady’s husband had let himself into “my” apartment with a key and tried to get with me. But I am very loud when assault is attempted, and he got out of there quickly, holding his hands over his ears.

Then I installed two additional locks to which they did not have a key. And started planning how to buy a house.

Sure.

If you stay a renter because you spend all your money on liquor and cigarettes it will shorten your life.

IF ANYONE HAS A LEGIT BEEF:

IT IS THOSE WHO HAVE NO KIDS—EVER-—IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM & about half their property taxes go to support the schools.

I have paid property taxes since May of 1966. I inherited a property...

I owned 2 of my own in overlap...

Lived in 3 properties I bought.

NO KIDS...
SURE would like that part of my property taxes returned to me.

You mean the infrastructure which has been in place for many decades?

Btw, what are gas taxes for?

YOU are fooling yourself about how long much of that ‘infrastructure has “been in place”.

Expanding areas still need wider & more roads.

GOT KIDS???

GOT GRANDKIDS???

NEED schools & transportation and retail stores.

roads get repaired & replaced regularly. More so in the colder half of the USA.

I use to cruise around LA freeways, some with 5 lanes each direction, bumper to bumper, as far as the eyeball could see...In every direction! Where rush hour was 6+ hours long. You get the picture.

I'd see these millions of people in their vehicles and think, gezzuz each one of these people are paying $300, 400 and $500++ per year on their car taxes and registrations. And then they force them to renew their registrations on the same vehicles every year, even if they haven't moved or sold their vehicles.☺ Over and over...

Where does this never ending flood of billions go? Have you looked at the state of U.S. cities lately?

Correlation be causation.
People who buy are generally more stable .

Junk science like climate change.
Randomly interpret data in foolish ways.

Good post—and directly on point.

Young renters are usually at a point in life where things are tough—so of course they have more issues.

I had a five year period when I was a young man when I was renting where:

—I was fired from two different jobs
—I quit two other awful jobs
—My car was broken into and valuable stuff stolen—while in the apartment building’s covered garage

and—to top it all off, my fiance dumped me and I never saw it coming.

Looking back it is amazing I got through it all...

P.S. Footnote on former fiance—she became a prominent lefty in later years—it turned out she was doing me a favor.

You dodged a bullet, and a probable financial catastrophe in divorce court. God is good!

I think back and breathe a sigh of rellief, as well. Even though I stay off FB, Instagram, etc, during the pandemic several old friends got in touch after literally decades. Wow, no more regrets for moving on from some of these folks!
