The notion that an entire army just turned on a time (so to speak) and started savagely mass raping, burning babies alive and beheading them, torturing family members in front of each other and killing them, and so much unspeakably more, without forethought and working themselves up to a rationalizing frenzy of self-righteous evil over time is ludicrous.
