I was in Israel 2010 and I noticed that every fourth person was carrying a rifle. Apparently they disarmed the citizenry. How did that work out on last Saturday?
Probably IDF folks. General gun ownership laws in Israel make caulifourkneeyuh jealous. Apparently Gvir has loosened the restrictions up slightly now.
Anyone carrying a rifle in Israel is in the IDF on duty of some kind, or on the way to or from being on duty. I have been to Israel five times, mainly because one of my brothers lives there, and it was explained to me that due to the large numbers of active duty and reservists that are in and around population centers on a constant basis, they are trained and instructed to position themselves in such a way as to offer the greatest amount of quick support in the event of a terrorist action. For example, when an armed IDF soldier gets on a bus, they are to scan the bus, and if nobody else from the IDF is there with a rifle, they are to go to the back - and if there is no seat for that person, someone moves, because everybody is aware of the policy, and understands exactly why that armed soldier needs to sit in the middle of the seat in the very back of the bus. The second person is to go to the front, and the third to go to the middle. This is regardless of whether they get on the bus together and are best of friends, or not. The general population, with a very few exceptions in the occupied territory, are not even allowed to own rifles, and they are certainly not allowed to carry them off of their property or outside of the apartment where they live.
In my opinion, Israel should place an order for somewhere between 1/2 million and 1 million ARs, and sell them at cost, with at least four magazines filled with ammunition, to whomever wants it among their population. They really don’t have to worry about training, as virtually every male has training, and many females do, as well. If they wanted to restricted to people who had any IDF training, that would be fine (though they should offer the option of specific training to those who don’t have it already, such as immigrants), as it wouldn’t really even be much of a restriction.
I hope that one of the good things that comes out of this horrible tragedy that they have been through is that they will make a 180° change in their civilian firearms policy. It most definitely cost many hundreds of people their lives, and will cost more people their lives as Israel goes to war against Hamas, and possibly its allies as the days move forward. If, on the other hand, there had been a large incursion, and it had been turned back with a few dozen dead rather than 1200, Israel would’ve bombed and shelled Gaza, but there would be no imminent invasion. All of this talk and reality of World War III is as a *direct* result of Israel’s restrictive civilian firearms policy.
Too little too late. Aussies better wake up before China invades.
Civilian Security Teams do not equal the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms here in the USA.
As an addendum to my final paragraph, I think there is a reasonable possibility that if there were somewhere between 500,000 and 1 million rifles distributed among the population in Israel, that Hamas would not have even attempted an incursion like occurred last week. They would have known that it would fail, miserably, and would not accomplish their objectives. So once again, Israel’s incredibly restrictive civilian, firearms policy is (in my opinion) a direct cause of the deaths of those 1200 or so people, and of the situation in which Israel, and the rest of that region finds itself right now. This is the cost of a government not trusting its citizens. Let the rest of the world, and especially those in government in the United States, understand the implications of what has just occurred.
Just more propaganda? And if they used to be armed but not cannot be, they didn't learn as much from WW2 as they should have.
Covered here last week.
Also, the Samaria Council is purchasing hundreds of IWI Arad assault rifles which had previously been reserved for export. They are an alternative to the IDF Tavor x95.
The horses are already running away...
Too late to lock the barn doors...
Correct. At one time I wrongly thought Israel would Bevan armed camp. After doing a little research I learned that progressives with a death wish must have gotten in to political positions. Dumbassery writ large.
🙏🇮🇱👍
They depended too much on border security. It was pretty formidable but it was not secure enough.
Horse, meet the open barn door!
Fine as long as they distribute them to the civilian teams and do not keep them locked up in a central armory.
Blame Bibi all you want for this dreadful invasion by Hamas, but the roots in its success were sown when Israel refused its citizens the right to bear arms except in extremely limited cases. An armed populace would have either prevented the invasion altogether because the terrorists wouldn’t invade in the first place due to everyone being armed or would have blunted it with a minimum of civilian casualties.
Good Points...
I spent 10 days in the Old City in the Late 90’s with IDF everywhere and felt Safe. Then the Busses were targeted.
This Terrorists’ attack is a Game Changer.
That is a supreme curiosity/tragedy!
A few years ago, I recall seeing a picture of four lovely lady school teachers carrying (slung? slinged?) AR-15s as they went about their day.
What happened?
Ophonybama twist Israel’s arm?
Thanks for all that. Good insight.
One question, has Israel let in far too many enemies of Israel such that allowing the citizens to be armed means arming those enemies they have let in? Legitimate question because I have no idea if Israel has let in such enemies, but it seems they may have like every other nation.
A certain percent of Israeli school teachers are psychologically cleared to be armed, in addition to school armed guards. Doesn’t help anyone at home or walking around their neighborhood, especially in rural areas.
IIRC, every 18 year old Israeli has to serve on active duty in the armed forces for two years, and then becomes a Ready Reservist for a period of time.
I.e., there are a lot of Israelis trained in the use of military weapons.
Too bad that Israel doesn’t adhere to the Swiss protocol!
THAT may change, Real Soon Now!
