Sure thing Robert Hunter had this in mind when he wrote that line.

Shot placement, not caliber.

I could, with malice aforethought. Aim, say “Hey boy”, and fire when the ape turns to look.

The homeowner needs a larger caliber. ...especially in the home.

If a home owner in Ohio did that would they be in jail.Depends on which part of Ohio. Big city - they frown on self-defense, but it's still allowed in suburbia and definitely in rural areas.
Rural Ohio is very conservative. It's those big, blue, crime-ridden cities that are the problem as in every state.

The only sewing up with 00 buck will be the Y incision performed in the morgue.

A sponge and some Mr. Clean and maybe some spackle for the holes. A small price to pay for knowing the POS will not get up ever again. My Rem 870 12ga is at my bedside. It has a green laser and a small but very bright flashlight mounted on the rails. Anyone who enters my house illegally will leave in a body bag. After 3 combat tours in Iraq I long ago lost any compunction about dropping the hammer on someone to protect me and my wife.

” spackle for the holes.”
See .... I’m with ya on the hammer drop ..
my point is just
Look around your house and figure the range you may have when you drop.
Inside my house...I’m seeing 10 or 12 feet.
No go out to your range in the back yard and pop a few pumpkins at .... say 15 feet .. with 00 and #7.
My wife would have a fit if I put a 00 splatter in the living room...... #7 ? well .... she would fuss, but not as much.
Trade offs .... life is full of trade offs.
