I won’t disagree with that, only noting that the alternative to free trade is regulations, and Reagan made a choice. Maybe the wrong one, but hindsight is 20/20. The thinking then was that “American exceptionalism” would always put us on top of the global economy, and who cared where cheap commodity items and parts were made? Clearly we would like a do-over on that!

The expression around the Fortune 100 where I worked was “parts is parts”...get ‘em cheap and make lots of money by adding value to them - in other words, exploit low cost manufacturing to maintain and grow your business. No one considered that the Chinese and others could become such formidable competitors in our end markets.

Yup !

Financialization was another huge problem which substituted financial asset manipulation and debt bubbles for actual industrial production.

The UK the same under Thatcher.

It is not a co-incidence that both Blair and Obama paid tribute to Thatcher and Reagan, because they both did much to pave the way for those two.

I don’t think that conervatives or the right are going to get anywhere until there is an honest re-assessment of Thatcher and Reagan.

Observe that of the current Presidential candidates, the 80’s Nostalgists and Reagan Re-enactors are the worst GOPe North of Richmond NeoCons.

Repeat that thinking thoughout the corporate world of the entire West, and end up in a situation where Russia alone is producing seven times the artillery ammunition output of the entire West.

I’m always amazed that the NeoCons who want all these globalist wars couldn’t see that a de-industrialized America wouldn’t be able to support their imperialist efforts.

I guess it was just another area they were stupid about.

As a small business owner the goal is PROFIT. If you don’t have a profit, you have no jobs and the business closes. Profit is not greed and that’s just the way it is. Wealth creation and profit, create jobs.
