Yep.
We have to sometimes remind ourselves of that. It’s so easy to look for a top down approach but we have to step back and allow the system to work. The market system.
If scooters are bad, people will quit using them and they will fail. If they are good, people will use them and they will thrive.
For the guy who doesn’t like them cause he can’t carry his stuff, he’s free to develop some sort of four wheel version, like a rental golf cart. Golf carts are very popular in some areas and maybe the rentals already exist, but not for $1 a minute like the scooters.
Free Market only exists in books, not countries.
Too much freedoming I assume
Dude, we’re discussing a perfect example of the free market in action and you tell me it doesn’t exist?
Electric rental scooter companies didn’t go to their overlords and ask permission, because they knew the answer would be NO.
The new scooters simply showed up on streetcorners one day and people began to use them. By the time the government figured it out, it was too late, scooters were part of the community and in regular use by citizens.
For the most part, government capitulated their power of NO.
It’s a prime example of the free market.
People are inconsiderate about where they park these.
I try to be polite and always park these at the side of the road so the scooter doesn’t obstruct anyone’s passage, but the system isn’t accurate enough to be able to enforce it and inconsiderate people leave these in the middle of the road.
Seems like an easy fix. Charge a hefty deposit upon rental that is refunded when scooter is returned to an authorized location.
I am in the “hate” camp along with the locals of cities in Poland. When I was living there they just came out and idiots were crashing in to pedestrians all the time. Finally the locals got so sick of them and tossed every one of them in the canals. Problem solved. They never reappeared.
That's about how people who live in the cities shop--whatever they can carry in a hand or two is what they take home. Enough for dinner that night, or maybe breakfast in the morning.
