There’s a youtube channel called “Canadian Prepper”. He has been talking about these wildfires for a long long time. Of course he is quite dramatic and funny - a “we are all going to die” kind of guy.
But he lives up there and would know what’s going on. He has some interesting and knowledgeable videos if you can make it past the hyperbole. :-)

The evacuations are probably what you might call “abundance of caution” — Yellowknife is a fairly spread out city and I don’t foresee the whole place going up in one vast inferno, even at Fort Mac that wasn’t quite the situation.
Winds (from latest model guidance) will be in the undesirable west to northwest direction for several days but will then become more light and variable by Sunday. That may assist in keeping the fires from spreading very far into the community. Not much rain is foreseen for the next week.

See? ‘Conversation’ is required when it’s desired how the Fire God should be appeased. It’s not as simple as tying up a virgin on some firewood.
