Right? I don't know, "rights" are pretty subjective these days. But if I have a gun in my hand, allowing the attacker to reach me means we are in a life or death struggle for my gun. I would have every reason to fear for my life. I think I would shoot. Will I be convicted of a crime for that shooting? Maybe. A lot depends on the circumstances that led up to the confrontation.
In this case, she was covering the suspect with her pistol while the second officer deployed his taser. The taser didn't work and the suspect charged at an officer with her weapon drawn. I'd say justifiable for this situation, but hard to apply these actions to a non-LEO shooting.
Don’t bring a marker to a gunfight. Piss on the assailant.
“Watching someone being killed should horrify anyone..”
It is horrifying to see someone attack a cop with intent to do great harm. To see someone being killed depends on who and why they are being killed.
“If someone lunges toward you, do you have the right to kill him?”
well, you can wait a second and a half and see if the stab you first.
“Women cops have a useful place on a police force. But, they should not be front line street cops and they will continue to shoot and kill when threatened because “they have no choice”.”
I watched a very hostile crowd of about 40 (Blacks) surround 2 officers. The female officer jumped on top of the patrol car and racked her shotgun. The crowd dispersed. I would take her as a patrol parner anyday.
“. And a woman. Resorting to deadly force because that’s all she knows.”
Your view of reality must come from comic books. Maybe she should have waited the two seconds it would have taken for him to reach her and asked him if he would just sit down.
They hit the (ghetto) Lottery!
Yeah whatever. History has shown us pretty conclusively that women aren't really up to the job of being a police officer because of the limited range of options they have.
