Not only was his political ambition a slap across Trump’s face, it was a middle finger to the MAGA base. Rather than, as you said, pull everyone together in unity and support (something the Republicans seem incapable of) DeSantis doesn’t give a rat’s behind about throwing such chaos into the base.
Selfish, greedy, opportunist. I suspect a lot of it is Mrs. Opportunist.
I think the other elves (Pence, Christie, Haley et al) are part of the swamp uni-party and are doing their level best to keep Trump out for their own questionable dealings. Just a hunch.
DeSantis should have said, I am supporting President Trump, America First and the make America Great again movement. Although I may be interested in running for President in the future, I believe under current circumstances I should support Trump and campaign for him.

Christine Todd Whitman. Got her into office. A big feather in his cap to the point he taunted serpent-head with the ‘walking around money’ he allegedly gave to black churches to ‘suppress’ their vote. Big stink aftermath. Wasn’t true but the left did what Adam Schiff is known to do.
Whitman was the best we could do in NJ.
I read Rollins’ book. Funny. He had things to say about Arianna Huffington. Exposed her too.

When you’re a soldier in the [MAGA} movement, you don’t challenge the general and pretend that he hasn’t been the movement’s leader since its inception. DeSantis wanted the good parts of being associated with this tremendous movement, but not the bad parts for him politically (i.e. acknowledge that Trump was the one who got this ball rolling and not him).
