I am not a lawyer, but I think that one can lose a slander or defamation lawsuit for making false statements if they are "damaged" by them, even if the defendant believed they were true. Also, in civil cases, it does not require 100% certainty, but only a "preponderance of the evidence." Like in the OJ lawsuit.

I don't even know exactly what they are alleging in this case. Something about 2020.

I think it was the mother and daughter team, along with a few others who were counting absentee ballots after they sent everyone home. They were seen dragging suitcases full of ballots out from under the tables. They were never investigated as far as I know, were never charged, and were made to look like poor, old black victims. Biden gave her and her daughter Presidential Citizens Medal this past January in The White House. They testified in front of the January 6th Committee.

It says that he does not admit the allegations against him are true, but for financial reasons he is not disputing them. How is that an admission that he lied?

Rudy explained this Fake News very clearly. His filing strongly asserts that he does not admit to their allegations but rather he does not want to contest those allegations and while those statements carry meaning that was defamatory per se they are protected by the Constitution and in furtherance intended to end proceedings on this matter without incurring further costs.

In a court filing on Aug. 8, Rudy submitted to the court: The Defendant Giuliani, for purposes of this litigation only, does not contest that, to the extent the statements were statements of fact and otherwise actionable, such actionable factual statements were false.

So he admits, the statements made about Freeman & her daughter were false.
