Dr. William Allen was born in 1944, 79 years after slavery ended (1865) Since his great grandfather was a slave (presumably up to that point), we're talking it took 79 years from that point for 3 generations to be born (Dr. Allen's grandfather, then father, then Dr. Allen himself). That's an average age of each father being 27 years old before his kid was born (at least the "kid" in line from ghe great grandfather to Dr. Allen). And even that assumes the great grandfather was an infant slave when slavery ended in 1865.

In other words, Dr. Allen's family doesn't seem to be in the habit of making babies while the "parents' are themselves still kids. They seem to focus on making sure they have financial footing and some maturity before taking on the responsibility of making and raising babies.
