Of course they taught Russian in school in Poland, but nobody would speak it if they didn’t have to.
“Most Poles were very accomodating of the Ukrainians. For the most part nobody really cares about all that stuff that happened during WWII, they have bonded over their common hatred of Russia.”
I understand, and it matches what I’ve heard here. I was only referring to the Poles that have to deal with seeing the RUSSIAN Language every day, now in their country!
They understand the reason for it, that a lot of Ukrainians only speak Russian.
In our neighborhood, well-dressed young Russians go up and down the street at 5:30 in the morning with flashlights peering into cars to see if there’s anything they can steal. I’ve seen them, several neighbors have seen them.
Nearby supermarket has to put a metal fence between one entrance and the expensive merchandise behind it after 5 p.m. I spoke with an employee who told me they were not allowed to stop thieves but didn’t want to lose too much money. Thieves are all Russian.
[Most Ukrainians speak Russian as a first language.]
Wasn’t it forced on them? I thought that was why they ditched it as fast as they could and went back to Ukrainian.
Ukrainian was forced on them. Until 1991 communists had a quota meaning that half of everything had to be printed in Ukrainian, and you could get free tickets to the theater for the Ukrainian plays, whereas you had to pay for the same stuff in Russian.
Funnily, Ukrainian language was the first victim of the end of communism because everything turned back to Russian once the quotas were no more.
Since 2004 they started to instill Ukrainian by force.
My Polish pal is still mad about being forced to learn Russian in grade school.
When I first heard a Polish speaker a few years ago, I recognized some of the words.
In fact the historical Polish harted for Russians and communism is a bullcrap.
There was nothing like this in the 1970s. There were mild anti-Russian sentiments in Czechoslovakia but in Poland as a Russian you were likely to encounter a lot of folks looking to kiss your butt. A situation was similar to the Polish-American situation of our days. I am curious how is it going to develop in future.
Our dear family friend from 1972 until his death, wrote several extensive English/Russian dictionaries. He and his wife spoke/speak fluent Russian.

I don’t know about where you live, but in my neck of the woods if you want get various kinds of construction work done, you are likely to end up with a Latino. OUr schools have stopped woodworking shop, auto mechanics, and a number of other useful skills for employment, and then wonder why blacks have a much higher unemployment rate.
When I was in high school 70 years ago I took cooking, sewing and home nursing classes. Along with my college degree I have used all 3 skills. My late husband decided I might be good marriage material when on our first date I saw he had a button missing and insisted he let me sew it back on before he took me to dinner. Forty-five years later I was using my home nursing skills as he slowly died of Alzheimers.
How many Americans of either race are willing to do the kind of work so many Latinos/as are now doing at minimum wage or less?
Yep, my point exactly. There were hillbillies who didn’t know Russian, but it was different with the intelligent people.
“Unlike American liberals who promise to leave, but never do, Russian liberals actually leave the country.”
>>>>>
No, they are NOT Russian liberals leaving the country.
They are Russian CONSERVATIVES leaving the Neo-soviet Russia.
That is a big difference. They are simply fleeing from Sovietism.
I think you and I would have done the same if we had lived in Russia’s Kremlinized hellhole.
Where ever white people go, the economy will flourish. It’s a white thing...
What does our border have to do with Russians leaving Russia?
WHAT?! How could they appreciate it more than the new arrivals we have now? /S
“How many Americans of either race are willing to do the kind of work so many Latinos/as are now doing at minimum wage or less?”
I’ve been doing it for decades for nothing. I have always been of the mindset that if I can do it myself, I won’t need to hire someone else to do it. And I do pretty much everything except projects that require a crew and heavy equipment.
I worked construction before I got married in my 30s. I’m younger than you (I’m only in my 70s), but there are still some of us who not only CAN get our hands dirty and calloused, we ENJOY doing it. But, you’re right: These younger generations lack both the wherewithal and the desire to learn any of the trades, which is one of the reasons our society is collapsing.
Hundreds of thousands of people fled blue states after Biden was elected — and now the red states that took them in are seeing a boost in their economies.
