Phony straw man. The choice isn’t between isolationism and being the world’s policeman. We can’t continue to get into endless, proxy wars that weaken us. We are the world’s biggest debtor nation. Our annual debt servicing costs are $500 billion a year and will exceed our current defense budget by the end of the decade. We spend more on defense than the next 10.countries combined.
In addition to our national debt of $32 trillion, we have over $100 trillion in unfunded liabilities in the form of Medicare and Social Security. In 2028, 5 years from now, the Medicare Trust Fund (HI) is exhausted, and in 2034 the SSTF goes bust. By law, benefits will have to be reduced to revenue received, which translates into a cut in benefits for both programs of 20%. In order to keep both programs solvent, we will have to increase payroll taxes or reduce benefits or some combination thereof. Defense spending is considered discretionary. Increasingly, the US will have to make some hard choices on guns versus butter, and butter usually wins because it has more constituents.
Define what is letting Putin win means. Are you saying that Ukraine must return to its 1991 borders? If Putin keeps the territory he currently holds, including Crimea, is that winning?
Are you saying that China will not invade Taiwan if Putin “loses” in Ukraine? I can remember how the Domino Theory got us involved in Vietnam. We can’t afford the billions we are investing in Ukraine. Zelensky estimates it will cost 800 billion to rebuild Ukraine, which was one of the poorest and most corrupt countries in Europe before the war.

Not even close.
China already has Taiwan, they just don’t want us to know it. They’ve got moles everywhere in the government and industry there. Any secrets we share with Taiwan go straight to Beijing.
