How long before the cameras start getting “necklaced,” like they do in the U.K.?
My car had never even been in SoCal, and fighting the ticket was a pain. I won, eventually, but they did not make it easy.
One issue, thus, is having to prove one's innocence in disputed citations.
Move.
The Constitution gives citizen defendants the right to face their accusers in courts of law. If there is no accuser then there can be no trial.
This looks like another Orwellian move“
That’s because it is. It’s unconstitutional too.
Well, Maryland has been doing this for MANY years. They even have portable ones that can be frequently moved to different locations so THE DEPLORABLES don’t always know when they will pop up in a given location.
In the U.S. they're usually lased to ruin them.
this camera shite in colorado is run by private companies that share part of the revenue with the local municipalities ...
... many years ago, the state legislature set rules on their use:
1. it’s a civil issue, not criminal; no points, no LEO enforcement ...
2. the PERSON driving receives the civil summons, not the car ... thus, the PERSON driving MUST be identified ... they don’t even bother to mail a summons if there’s an obvious mismatch with information about the car’s registered owner and the photo ... therefore, wear a cap, sunglasses and even a mask in a city with cameras ...
3. they have 90 days to effect a successful summons ... so, just throw away all the summons letters, and if they bother with attempting personal service, just be wary of answering the door and/or have a family member do it and refuse to accept any paperwork ... they’ll usually give up after that because they have to hire off-duty cops to issue personal service and that’s expensive ...
Everywhere else in the country they are getting rid of automated things like traffic cameras and whatnot. Not in the totalitarian state of Californication.
This all on its own will drive people out of CA.
No one drives the speed limit in CA.
Trading freedom for security - speed limit cameras reasoning same as gun control logic, but cameras won't stop knuckleheads from zooming. Critical thinking is not a crime, yet.
I would argue that since there were no damages greater than 900 dollars, then the drivers shouldn’t be fined or arrested...just like California shoplifters! /sarc
Driving the speed limit is a good stress reducer, unless a bumper bully gets behind you.
San Francisco 95% voted for Biden.
Set the ticket camera at one mph over !
I remember getting one in Germany. I had just PCS’d from England and had a right hand drive vehicle. The speed cameras in Germany take pictures from the front, so the first time I got a ticket in the mail it was my car, but the picture showed my Golden Retriever - “Zeke” in the left hand seat. The pictures never showed the right seat. I took the picture and ticket in to the local Polizei station and told them that wasn’t me, which they had to agree so the ticket disappeared.
“I’m torn. This looks like another Orwellian move by the autocrats here in California but we do have too many knuckleheads zooming around here and causing havoc.”
Same here. I can’t think how many time I’ve asked myself “where are the cops when you need them” after seeing some a**hole weaving in and out of traffic lanes at high speeds and hoping that I would see him wrapped around a telephone pole down the road.
If this garbage passes the legislature in Californistan, it will propagate across the country.
Count on it.
What will happen if the those getting tickets are statistically skewed toward people of color?
I notice Google maps now logs my speed, along with the posted speed limit displayed in the app. It would be really easy to use that info to automatically fine me for speeding.
