Okay, Prof. Loria - is climate change here in the room with us?
That excessive heat causes layers of soil to expand or contract and the ground to swell. Building foundations slowly sink as a result.
guess he never heard of winter...
the ground freezes and thaws every year and settles things MUCH more than gloBULL warming
The silent impact of underground climate change on civil infrastructure..
Rotta Loria, A.F. The silent impact of underground climate change on civil infrastructure.
Fun stuff.
Not exactly what I was looking for and do not want to bad mouth their work.
IMO the GLOBAL WARMING connection is an effort to obtain funding.
This article used surface mount temperature sensors and the data was calculated.
Penetrating a foundation wall below the water line would require liability insurance and more. $$$

“The results of this study indicate that the observed temperature rises in the subsurface of the Loop have caused negligible changes in the direction and magnitude of the groundwater flow. Furthermore, these results support that the Chicago River and Lake Michigan serve as buffers for the observed ground temperature rises, thus absorbing waste heat. The analysis of such an aspect remains outside the scope of this work but appears to deserve future consideration.”
LOL a whole new bunch of crap they can spew! Sad thing is people will believe them.
“No existing civil structure or infrastructure is designed to withstand these variations.”
So, the Sears Tower can withstand outside temps from 0 degrees F, and 100 degrees F for years, but the underpinnings it’s built on can’t handle 70-90?
What science book is this guy reading? Total nonsense!
