I’ve seen a KKK tract from the 30’s. The KKK was very pro-union.
I would hire the toughest guy I could find in the “Hood” when I had to do a job there. I would pay them 20.00 bucks up front and 50.00 when the job was over to make sure my truck was not ransacked while I was in the basement, worked pretty well most of the time, cheap insurance for me and I added it to the bill as a cost of working in a high risk area.
That was an issue when I worked the projects in Milwaukee as roving apartment maintenance.
A guy I know is a journeyman plumber. Decided to try his own business. Was invited to bid on a remodel job in government housing. Warned to jack up his bid due to hassles, he did, but he got the job anyway. His new tool van had the spare tire and supplies stolen the first day.
He bought a run down truck and got a black apprentice from the union to do the work. Never did another bid for any government unit.
Been there, done that. The Govt. tenants would be screaming about “no Hot Water!” but they were looking as the stuff I needed to fix the problem was stolen by their own Kids! I have no use for any of them and would not piss on them if they were on fire.
