True that. I go to a majority black church and my church family hates mess like this.
Her and my FIL were both in DC during the civil rights marches, and I think they participated in 1 or 2 while they were there.
They are stuck in that mindset and pretty much exclusively watch MSDNC. There is also some local radio station that is left-wing bilge they listen to as well.
I just thank God that my wife never bought into that clap-trap. So far I am 4-4 with my kids. They are all conservatives because we go to church and I talk to them about things and try to set the example. All doing great.
Most people in Texas who aren’t black don’t take the holiday. I didn’t hear about it growning up, but south Texas is only about 5% black. I started hearing about it when I lived in Houston.

I am positive my in-laws knew nothing about it either until several years ago the MSM picked it up. Just a leftist PC grab for power and votes; and another holiday for our slacker government employees to take off.
Once upon a time, Christianity underlay the dominant black culture in this country. And judging from the churches one sees when driving through black neighborhoods and black Christian broadcasts on AM radio, it seems there still is a Christian subculture in the black community.

Compton's residential neighborhoods also consist mostly of bungalow-type houses, and the city was once middle class. My aunt is from there. Barbara Bush described Compton as "lovely" when she lived there with her husband George and son George W., on the corner of Santa Fe and Myrrh.
Wikipedia has a list of streets named after King. Most are boulevards, but there are also some avenues, expressways, etc.
Interestingly, the streets always feature his full name, and sometimes even his academic title "Dr." No one else gets this treatment. LA's main drag is Wilshire Blvd., not H. Gaylord Wilshire Blvd.; a major thoroughfare from LA to Whittier is Washington Blvd., not President George Washington Blvd., and a major street that runs through Compton is Rosecrans Ave., not Gen. William Rosecrans Ave.
Soon to be a lot more “Barack Obama Boulevards”.
