There is no nation on planet earth that is unconquerable, if others have the will and the means to accomplish it. And there will ALWAYS be someone — or a group of someones — with both the will and the means.
“Wars are won by logistics. And logistics favor the side with the most industrial capacity and means to deliver it.”
Very true.
“The majority of China’s ships are still coast guard level stuff. The media claiming that China has a powerful military is the same nonsense as the missile gap myth that Kennedy found out about when he became president and saw the actual numbers.”
First, given current technology, non-stealthy surface ships and aircraft are sitting ducks. Commercial vessels and aircraft even more so. If China declares an air and sea exclusion zone around Taiwan, what shipping company is going to send its vessels in and out of Taiwan in sufficient numbers for business to continue without a complete economic collapse of Taiwan? I see a blockade as a real threat regardless of how feasible it would be for the US Navy to break it. I don’t foresee a Normandy-style invasion because the Chinese likely view that as impractical and unnecessary. They will instead go for the blockade and economic collapse leading to political upheaval.
“What Taiwan is is a potential Chinese base across the Japan and South Korea shipping lanes to half the world. Its a place from which the East Asia trade can be throttled.”
China doesn’t need Taiwan as a base, as it could go around it; but having Taiwan as a Chinese base would sure as hell simplify things for China.
Another question no one is asking is, Why is Politico all of a sudden raising this issue? Who pulled their chain and why?
Independent journalism is long dead. This article is the product of some faction in DC. What’s going on in DC is the first question to ask.
Look when Chinese purchases if machine tools exploded.
Coincides almost perfectly with Obama’s reign.
True that.
Spot on!
With what kind of force? Rainbows and unicorns? F’em if they think I’m sending my boys.
Trump built up the military, Brandon tore it down.
No offense, but it doesn’t seem so obvious why China couldn’t.
They are a mere 100 miles away from each other. China could swallow Tiawan, burp, and not even realize they ate them!
Seriously though, I do not get you’re rationale?
Please explain
How will China move millions of soldiers in ships back and forth without Taiwan sinking them?
Translated:
The ‘generals’ and appointees sold us out.
We have plenty of rope, but not the will to use it.
“ All of a sudden, Washington is reckoning with the fact that so many parts and pieces of munitions, planes, and ships it needs are being manufactured overseas,”
A clue for the clueless
I don’t think they get sunk after about a week.
“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.” — Greek Proverb
How does that math change as they start steamrolling dissident civilians with tanks?
Consider this: 700,000 Americans are on blood pressure medication sourced 100% from China.
How many of them will be among your first KIA in the war with China?
Retread troll.
Sounds like an illegal defense leak. As we know that is punishable by the DOJ.
“All of a sudden, Washington is reckoning with the fact that so many parts and pieces of munitions, planes, and ships it needs are being manufactured overseas, including in China. Among the deficiencies: components of solid rocket motors, shell casings, machine tools, fuses and precursor elements to propellants and explosives, many of which are made in China and India.”
They “all of a sudden” realize this?! Took a break from calling those pointing out the obvious “racists,” and now they’re “freaking out”?!
Has the military been too busy cutting service”men”’s balls off to remember where their own are? Good grief, Charlie Brown.
