Based on Trump’s quoted words, he did not let the journalist read it, and he never said he took it without declassifying it.
He said the journalist couldn’t read it and that Trump could no longer declassify the information to show it to him.
Leaking classified information is illegal???? Who knew? If that's the case, everyone who was involved in leaking the Steele Dossier to the press and people on the Hill will be in REALLY big trouble. /s I wish we could invent a truth serum that would induce all the reporters to come clean on who has leaked classified information to them over the years. Throw them all in jail. Official Washington would be a ghost town.
If Trump suddenly produces the security tapes showing them moving banker boxes around and photographing them, I’m going to laugh my ass off.

So people think that while indicting a former President, a member of the US Attorney’s office didn’t ask, “Do we actually have evidence?”
Until the evidence is laid out in court do fall prey to “end of the bar” lawyers. You will be disappointed with the results.
There’s a recording involved? A recording they can manipulate the meaning of the words spoken? Sounds to me like Trump Impeachment #1 again over a phone conversation. Or Democrats playing J6 video, adding their own audio to it, then using it as evidence.
Doesn’t anybody wonder why only MaraLago was searched ???? Trump’s summer home in Bedminster NJ and Trump’s apartment in NYC were not. Perhaps what the FBI was really looking for (hmmmmm maybe Russiagate spying information and Hunter/Joe Biden financial info) was known to be at MaraLago and not the other two locations.

At some point you need to stop worrying about the new baggage retrieval system they’ve got at Heathrow.
There should be log-in/log-out logs by safe for all White House classified documents.
The map would have log-out status.
The government would almost certainly have another copy.
One would think that because the FBI wouldn't allow anyone, not even Trump's lawyers to be present during the search, that that in itself, would cause everything to be tossed out. Even convicts have the right to be present when their cell or personal area is searched. The fact that the FBI disallowed it, should have effectively made the search illegal, and any charges stemming from the search, deemed null and void.
As I understand it, Trump isn’t being charged with a document classification issue. He’s being charged with Espionage crimes for having documents “important to the defense” of the US. That can be any doc he had from his time in office or they stuck in (since his lawyers weren’t allowed to observe.) This shorts circuits defense on declassifying docs as President.
Just lawfare tactics. They don’t care if it gets thrown out later. The process is the punishment. Hang another 30 felony indictments around his neck. Destroy Republicans electoral prospects and continue destroying the Republic.
This move ensures they can get someone elected we’ll find truly abhorrent. Do things like ban our flag. Abolish the Pledge. Continue rounding up the unwoke.
