Further, when it comes to support of our military and defense, it is the only function mentioned in the constitution that matters more than anything else. All other programs, including social security and medicare and medicaid, etc, were borne out of the perceived necessity to take care of people when they wouldn't do it themselves or could not do it because of their failed circumstances.

I for one would prefer not to have been forced to pay into social security, since I could have saved enough to take care of myself and my family. In fact, I know that with the proper investments, the money I paid into social security could have been better used to build a much better retirement fund.

When it comes to the military, I served and went to the battlefield. Did you???

If it were up to me, there would be no wars, but, that's not the way the world works. When it comes to aggressive nations, it's always best to be prepared for the worst, and the worst might include having to use nukes if the other side uses it first.

So, stop assuming, because, when you ASSUME, you make an ass of u and me.

I got to watch dinks swarm from those trails into VN no matter how much they were bombed. Only to have our intell we provided ignored by the military.

Defense is the only thing mentioned in the constitution that should be funded. All other programs, especially the so-called 'social programs' were not even hinted at during the founding of the country. Social security was created during the FDR administration, and it should have never been created or funded. And medicate ad medicaid were created by democrat administrations,and even Obamacare was under... guess who?

Funding of he programs were NOT ROBBED by the Korean war or any other defense needs. Those programs became 'funded' via higher taxes, which were again, passed by democrats. You must love being a democrat, even if you might claim to be republican.

Democrats have been taking funding from defense so that they can fund the social programs; meanwhile, the defense readiness suffered because of the lowered funding. Clinton forsake the military and actually took some funding from it, and so did Obama and now Biden, all of them your friends.

The 'military/industrial complex' still exists, but out of necessity. The military needs are served by the public sector, which is funded to do research on behalf of the military, and funding is also used to manufacture the weapons the military uses. The military doesn't manufacture; it only consumers or uses what's produced by the public sector businesses.

So, stop assuming because you know what happens when you assume.

Sounds like you have the same type of military service as J.Effng Kerry. Long distance and no real action.

I served 13 months in real action around Danang and Chu-lai. I saw people die, from both sides, and it wasn't pretty. I was in the !st MarDiv, 1st Tank Battalion, and it wasn't all tank service. I was a radio operator, which, if you knew anything about combat operations, I was prime target. I was shot at many times, but survived all of it. I can't say the same for many who served with me, where about 1/3 of those got killed in the action, and many more got battle injuries and had to be sent home. I saw enemy rockets flying above my post, and many of them landed on the Danang airfield, destroying some 40 planes and helicopters. I had to lead a platoon to find the rocket launchers and hopefully the people behind them. We found the launchers but the 'gooks' were long-gone.

So, don't tell me about your military action, because it doesn't compare at all. When it comes to bravery, you have no idea what that means. I carried a .45 on my hips and a rifle on my back, along with the radio which I was responsible for. So, get the "F" outta here with your heroics. "Hills"? Heck, we had to climb mountains and walk through jungles and rice paddies, to get at the enemy. What you did was comparable to our R&R.

I saw people dying all around me and bullets flying everywhere. You were sitting on a hill observing, and no doubt, you were the one doing your buddy, because that's how you would know how it goes. You have absolutely no idea what the heck you're talking about. We in the marines had our own scouts, many of them recon-marines; iow, the best of the best. Whatever you wee doing was useless to us. We had reconnaissance helicopters and high-flying planes covering for us and reporting to us. I was in direct communications with them as a radio operator. I called in missions from helicopters and many of them were for rescue and evacuations of the dead and injured. Sitting on a hilltop is not action at all.
