That is a fact!
I was stationed on a major warship in the shipyards 40 years ago. During a lunch break, I talked with the foreman in charge of making changes to our equipment panels. He was an older gentleman, but volunteered he only had a formal 5th grade education. He may have been wiring ships since WW2...
Nursing homes, retirement homes, assisted living homes are always looking for nurses, maintenance people and security people. They also hire a lot of retirees, esp. early retirees who have a prospect of ten or more years of working life. Seriously, tell your family and friends to check out these places. They love college kids who are working their way through college as dining hall workers and waiters. The place were my family are residents of, they’re interviewing.
After I was discharged from the USMC I went to work as an apprentice to a plumber.
After I retired as a Master Plumber (with a degree in fluid dynamics that I got while working as a journeyman plumber) I retired with 3 homes and 2 pieces of recreational property all paid for before retirement.
The building trades were very good to me.
Nothing will ever beat OJT plus a good education in your chosen trade.
Good for you. 👍
Got an old friend that’s been a plumber for probably 40 years.......he cracks me up, he gets pissed at the company he’s working for and he just up and quits.....a couple days later he’s working for another company. Sometimes its the SAME day!....and he’s probably done that at least half a dozen times.
My dad told me when I was just starting out that I should always make myself as indispensable as possible at work.......most people just don’t get that.
