Well they have banned by my children from being able to buy chocolate or strawberry milk with their lunches at school, with my money, so tell me why I should be paying for junk food for someone else’s kids?
The program itself is an abomination. Just get rid of it.
Romney was right when he said 47% of the vote is pretty much lost to us, because they aren’t paying taxes, but do receive benefits. There are a sizable number of the remaining 53% who think spending even more money on the poor is a good idea.
Yep, it was.
Then the “oh they are stigmatized” let them buy anything... and rules have been loosened and loosened and loosened over the years.
The program itself is an abomination. Just get rid of it. If the states want to have their own SNAP program that’s fine.

I agree and so does the Federal Government at least when it comes to wild animals in our National Parks - They all have signs that say DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS. If you do they become dependent on the free stuff and forget how to forage for food as they should.
Same with humans. You give them the necessities of life they lose the ability to provide for themselves. The experiment started by Johnson in the 1960s has proven the point. Of course for Democrats the experiment is a success, they have managed to enslave generations of people who know they have to keep voting for Democrats are the free life goes away.
“Keep the unconstitutional program in place but try to “conservatize” it and then beat your chest to the base that you accomplished something.”
Excellent post.
The Democrats are jamming their foot on the accelerator as the country goes speeding over the cliff.
The Republicans tap on the brakes.
The end result is exactly the same.
Agree. Just get rid of it. Personally I’ve always felt that if its indeed a free country then you have to let people buy what they want with the food assistance money. You can’t protect everyone against themselves.
Good to know the GOP is tackling the tough issues
“Well they have banned my children from being able to buy chocolate or strawberry milk with their lunches at school, with my money, so tell me why I should be paying for junk food for someone else’s kids?”
The lunch Karens (Brown shirts) are still in operation? Haven’t heard much out that crowd lately.
Totally agree. It's a head scratcher why it wasn't. I would like a Home Economics class as a requirement for welfare of any sort.
Because Big Sugar and Big Ag control everyone in Govt?
WIC sort of does that too.
I wouldn't be opposed to handing out an allotment of food rather than purchase power. Make it uncomfortable.
“More than 40 percent of U.S. adults are obese, and roughly half have diabetes or prediabetes.”
Rubio needs to do his research before he opens his mouth.
“The exact cause of most types of diabetes is unknown.”
It’s true that being overweight is a risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes, but your family history, age, and race are risk factors too.
https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/library/features/diabetes-causes.html
By placing enough people into an overweight category enough to try to control it to control the illness that can be effected by it, is not consistent with the overall reasons for the illness.
There are a number of other factors like age, family history, activity level, stress level, and a few others to include the prevalent amount of insulin resistance in this country and listed in every article I could find about diabetes.
Congress is not my mother and I will choose whatever foods I wish to consume. I was diagnosed with type II in 1986 when, at 6 feet 1 inch and 180 pounds, I was a member of the military, an instructing racquetball and handball competitor, ran 5 miles a day, and was in the best shape of my life. My father had it and my brother also got it and he was a rowing fly fishing guide on the Snake River. So much for obesity. Stay out of my life, Rubio. You can’t even do your job for the reasons we sent you there so don’t try to run mine.
And throwing the cost of it in is like saying the congress gave their approval of throwing money at it and now they are fishing for votes blaming people who are ill and not necessarily tht the first stone was their fault.

This won’t go over well with the ‘gibs me dat’ crowd, but with with the Biden administration there’s zero chance any bill would get signed by the president forcing people on government benefits to eat healthier.
Just got the email from the school yesterday the FDA guidelines change next year, so no chocolate or strawberry milk will be offered to grade schoolers.
Also all bread products must be whole wheat 4 days a week.
That will never happen and that's the tragedy of Rubio. Mostly all hat and no cattle. But he said a little something I could agree with..
"Rubio calls for Congress to bar SNAP purchases of soda, junk foods"
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
Patriots are reminded that the states have never expressly constitutionally given the post-17th Amendment ratification feds the specific power to tax and spend for vote-buying, INTRAstate welfare purposes, evidenced by SNAP.
From the writings of respected constitutional experts...
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
"The power to regulate manufactures is no more confided to congress, than the power to interfere with the systems of education, the poor laws, or the road laws of the states [emphases added]." —Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2, 1833.
From the congressional record:
”Simply this, that the care of the property, the liberty, and the life of the citizen, under the solemn sanction of an oath imposed by your Constitution, is in the States and not in the federal government [emphases added]. I have sought to effect no change in that respect in the Constitution of the country.” —John Bingham, Congressional. Globe. 1866, page 1292 (see top half of third column)
"From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]." —United States v. Butler, 1936.
Based on the excerpt above from Gibbons v. Ogden, SNAP is being funded with state revenues that the unconstitutional big federal government is stealing from the states by means of unconstitutional federal taxes, taxes that Congress cannot reasonably justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.
The bottom line is that the states need to eliminate the "middleman," the big, bad federal government, from "helping" the states to manage their revenues.
In fact, ALL the states can effectively "secede" from the corrupt feds by repealing the 16th (direct taxes) and 17th (popular voting for federal senators) Amendments (16&17A).
Limiting the proposed repeal amendment to strictly repealing 16&17A will hopefully limit discussion on the amendment.
In the meanwhile, Democratic and Republican patriots who support Trump need to "reset" the unconstitutionally big state and federal governments by primarying ALL incumbent state and federal government leaders in 2024 elections since they have all shown that they're not willing to stand up to condemn unconstitutional government policies imo.
In fact, while I support Trump, regular readers of Free Republic can probably do a better job of endorsing MAGA candidates for office than Trump can imo.
The definition of insanity is reelecting your beloved career state and federal lawmakers and executives over and over again, expecting different results every time.
Same effect, different poison
Wacism!!!!
Should never been included.
