I fear any president who seriously tried to get us out of NATO (which would be the same as disbanding it) might end up like JFK if no other way to stop him could be found. I am not the type to think such things lightly.
I’m not convinced Trump wanted (or wants) to get us out of NATO, but his going tough on NATO contributions got lots of criricism and pushback. Another reason they beat the Russia-Russia-Russia drum and impeached him twice? I wonder what they would do if he or any other president began to take steps to get out of NATO. I don’t think they’d stop at anything. And I don’t think we will ever willingly see NATO go by the wayside, at least not in my lifetime. Then again, I’m getting old.

NATO is one of those things which is of no value to the US but it is enormously valuable to a whole raft of people who would have to get real jobs if it didn’t exist.
It’s really ironic that Poland, again, wants to punch above their weight (against Russia this time instead of Germany, at least Germany not yet), relying on the US guarantee instead of the UK.
